ARC Review of The Prince Who Loved Me by Karen Hawkins

Image result for image of The Prince who Loved Me I have been reading Karen Hawkins for years and I have never been disappointed with any of her stories.  She writes beautiful love stories with handome Alpha males (my favorite type of hero) and smart, strong heroines that that make you wish for the book to never end.  This story is a variation on the Cinderella theme complete with a handsome Prince and a sweet innocent with a step mother and step sisters.  I do not want to give away too much of the story but Karen weaves a charming tale of two people from two different worlds discovering that their lives were not nearly as complete as they thought they were.  One chance meeting, one lost slipper and both their worlds are turned upside down. If you have never read a Karen Hawkins book you are missing out on one the best voices in Historical Romance today.  I recommend that you buy this book and lose yourself in the splendid world that Karen creates.

I received this ARC in return for an honest reveiw.

Review of Sonata For A Scoundrel by Anthea Lawson

This is the first book that read from this author and it will definetely will not be the last.  I loved the story.  The plot is well written with the historically accurate misconceptions that most men had of women in this period.  Musical Composition was a man's domain only and any women who attempted to write music was derided and ignored.  The characters are well written and sometimes very exasperating, which is how it should be. If all the characters were nice and well adjusted it would make for a very boring read.

Anthea's prose and lyrical style is a pleasure to read.  I recommend anyone who loves historical romance read this book.

ARC Review of A Notorious Ruin by Carolyn Jewel

Cover of A Notorious Ruin by Carolyn Jewel

This book was everything you expect from Carolyn, outstanding characters, a great story and sumptuous awe inspiring sex.  She writes with stunning complexity that keeps your mind engaged at all times.  This is the second book in the Sinclair Series and I enjoyed it as much as Lord Ruin.  This book tells the story of Lucy who was forcd to marry a commoner to help her family get out of debt.  After her husband dies she returns home to her father's house.  She is treated harshly by women who think she whored herself for the money, and the men assume that she is available for the taking.  All she wants to do is buy herself a small cottage and live alone.

Enter the Marquess of Tharle, invited to her father's house for visit.  She doesn't want to have anything to do with him or any other man.  She is a puzzle to him that he is determined to solve. The more time they spend together she realizes she wants him but knows that Society will shun him if anyone finds out.   They start a secret affair that includes very explicit sex scenes.  You will have to read the book to find out what happens.

This book is beautifully written and worth reading.  I have always enjoyed her writing and cannot wait for the next book in the Sinclair Sisters Series.

I received a complimentary copy for an honest review.

Once More My Darling Rogue
Lorraine Heath

Born to the street but raised within the aristocracy, Drake Darling can't escape his sordid beginnings. Not when Lady Ophelia Lyttleton snubs him at every turn, a constant reminder he's not truly one of them. But after rescuing her from a mysterious drowning, he realizes she doesn't remember who she is. With plans to bring her to heel, he insists she's his housekeeper—never expecting to fall for the charming beauty. While Ophelia might not recall her life before Drake, she has little doubt she belongs with him. The desire she feels for her dark, brooding employer can't be denied, regardless of consequences. So when Ophelia's memory returns, she is devastated by the depth of his betrayal. Now Drake must risk everything to prove she can trust this rogue with her heart once more.

Thank you Lorraine for stopping by today and giving us insight into her inspiration for this book.

Who would you be if you didn’t know who you were?
This question intrigues me. With a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I know that our past influences many aspects of our personality and our life: our fears, aspirations, dreams, determination, hopes, beliefs...the list goes on. Often we can’t point to specific incidents that shaped us. We are usually an accumulation of events and experiences. I was brought up in Texas, surrounded by those who loved the great state. My mother was British and her love for her homeland was ever present in my life. I write about Texas and cowboys, London and lords with equal fervor and affection. When I first met Lady Ophelia Lyttleton in WHEN THE DUKE WAS WICKED, I thought she seemed a bit snootie. I write by the seat of my pants. I go where the story and characters take me. While it might seem counter-intuitive, I often don’t know a great deal about my characters until I am actually writing their story. When I began working on the scenes with her and Drake for ONCE MORE, MY DARLING ROGUE, I realized that she all fa├žade. She had taken such great care to erect and fortify a false front that I knew the only way we would ever meet the real Ophelia was if she were no longer aware that she even possessed a veneer. So I turned to one of my favorite movies, OVERBOARD, for inspiration. This romantic comedy is really quite insightful when we look past the antics of Kirk Russell striving to get even with Goldie Hawn. And Goldie Hawn’s transformation from a spoiled rich girl to a loving wife and mother is inspired. I adore this movie. Therefore, I thought it best to toss Ophelia into the Thames and have Drake rescue her. When he discovers she has no memory, he decides a little payback is in order. He tells her that she is his servant. With no history, with nothing to shape her other than the present, she becomes a very different woman, a woman he falls madly in love with. But he knows that if, when, her memory returns, she will never forgive him for his deception. What I enjoyed was having a character with no past to influence her, no pre- conceived notions regarding her behavior. She revealed her core self. But when her memories return, the question becomes: Who do you want to be now that you know who you were and who you truly are? That all sounds so heavy for today, though, doesn’t it? So here is a question for you: Who would you be if you could be any character in a novel?

LORRAINE HEATH always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals and computer code, but something was always missing. After reading a romance novel, she not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She’s been writing about them ever since. Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards, including RWA’s RITA® and a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award. Her novels have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times best-seller lists.
