ARC Review of Twiice Tempted by Eileen Dreyer

Twice Tempted is the sixth book in the Drake Rakes Series, but you can read it as a stand alone book. If you have not read a book by Eileen I would highly recommend that you start with the first book in the series and read all six of them. You will not be disappointed. Eileen writes intricate plots that draw you in to the story and keep you on the edge to the very end. If you are looking for a simple read this author is not for you. Her characters are compelling, complicated individuals who have experienced all manner of emoitional turmoil, they are strong, intelligent,, and have braved dangerous intrigue, treacherous villains, death, and most important love. This story is filled with suspense, passion, revenge, forgiveness and a very refreshing wit. The historical details are fascinating.

You also get to see how the characters from the previous books fit into the bigger picture and how they are connected to each other. The reason you should read her books is because she writes richly emotional love stories with beautiful characters and remarkably satisfying endings. I never miss one of her books and you shouldn;t either.

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

ARC Review of Once Upon a Christmas Kiss by Manda Collins

A new novella from Manda that continues The Wicked Widow series.  We have met Sir Lucien Blakewell and Miss Winifred Nightingale in Why Dukes Say I Do.  Lucien is friends with The Duke of Ormonde and Winifred is governess to the dukes sisters.

They meet again at a Christmas house party in the country.  Lucien realizes that he wants to be more than friends, but Winifred resists him because she feels that she doesn't belong in his social sphere.  As the party progresses their feelings for each other deepen, but then an old adversary arrives and she comes up with a plan to protect herself and her reputation.  She asks Lucien if he would pretend to betrothed to her for the durations of the house party.  Lucien agrees under one condition.  Winifred must consider making the betrothal real and marry him.

This is a very sweet novella with great characters, lovely emotion and redemption.  I really enjoyed this book.  I have read all of Manda's historical novels and recommend them to anyone who loves a great story with all the wonderful aspects of a true romance novel.

Review of Dreaming of the Duke by Eva Devon

"A wife will spy upon her husband"  The first line in Eva Devon's new book caught me and never let go.  Sometimes when I do a review I have trouble putting in to words how much I really liked the book.  In this case I have no problem saying I Loved this book from the first sentence to the last.  Her writing is stunningly descriptive, deeply emotional and hystericallly funny.  I have not laughed this much reading a book in a long time.  Her characters are intelligent, captivating and funny as hell!!!  I usually do not give spoilers in my review because I want you to go out and buy this book, but there are so many scenes in this book that had me laughing out loud that I have to share one!!!

"You do realize I am still tied up and lying upon the ground."
"It has occurred to me, yes"
"I suppose you would like me to untie you."
"Yes. That would be pleasant, thank you."
"But you see," I should like to discover what it is about you that would cause my brother to act in such an odd fashion.  He doesn't usually take such interest in women."
"Are you saying he prefers men?"

And there are many more like this throughout the book!!!

The heroine Cordelia is a strong, smart, stubborn, and gives as good as she gets.  Jack is a self proclaimed scroundrel who hides his insecurites and doubts behind a mask of indifference and jadedness.  The are perfect for each other, they just don't want to admit it to themselves or each other.  The emotional journey that the author takes her characters on is astonishing, deeply heart wrenching and so beautiful.

There are great secondary characters also.  Jack's twin brother Charles is dangerously appealing and I hope he gets his own book, even though he is not a Duke.

I am giving this book 5 stars because it is one of the best I have read this year.  Do not miss it!!
