ARC Review of The Highlander by Kerrigan Byrne

The Highlander is the third book in Kerrigan's Victorian Rebel Series, this book is just as thrilling, and suspenseful, captivating you from the beginning.  Liam Mackenzie is the Marquess of Ravencroft, the Laird of Clan Mackenzie and the Demon Highlander.  He was raised by his brutal sadistic father along with his bastard brothers.  He has never known anything else but brutality, violence and war.  He fought in wars all over the world for years and now he is home and wants to try to be a father to his two children.  He has no idea how to go about it.  He writes his sister in law in London to send him a governess that can teach his children.
Who he receives at his highland stronghold has no resemblance to what he thought a governess should look like.  The woman he meets for the first time is a beautiful red haired siren who has a body made for sin.  He has never seen a more beautiful seductive woman.  He knows immediately that he wants everything and every way that he can have her.

Philomena St. Vincent grew up in a loving home with a father who loved and spoiled her.  When she meets her future husband she is hopeful that this handsome gentleman will make her happy and they will have a full life with a home and children.

What Mena gets instead in a hell that there is no escape from.  Her wedding night was a nightmare and everyday afterward only got worse.  The first time we meet Mena in this book is when she is about to be tortured in an ice bath by a brutish guard and evil doctor in the Asylum that her husband committed her to. No one will believe that she is not insane and everyday she falls deeper in despair.  On the day of the ice bath the doctor and orderly took her back to her cell to rape her, she fought them but they were too strong and this was going to be the worse than anything she had been through.  Then salvation arrived in the guise of giant men who  rescued her and took her away from the horror that she endured.

This is the story of two damaged people who have been abused and react  differently to what happened to them and how they survive.  They are both strong in their own ways.  Mena is frightened and attracted to Liam.  Liam wants Mena but feels that he does not deserve her.

Even though they have both been through their own personal hell, they still have the capacity to be kind and loving and as they discover each other secrets they grow closer.

There are many obstacles in their way, but will they be able to find a way to heal each other and find a love that will last for their entire lives.

Kerrigan writes stories with strong, heroic characters that you will cheer on to their HAE.   This book is full of surprises, action, very hot sex and a wonderful heart wrenching romance.

I loved this book and you will too.

Received a complimentary copy from the publisher for an hones review.
