ARC Review of Duke of Pleasure by Elizabeth Hoyt

Every time I read an Elizabeth Hoyt book it reminds me of why I love Historical Romance.  The Maiden Lane Series is one of the best in the Historical Romance Genre.  The Duke of Pleasure is number 11 in the Series and hope Elizabeth will keep this Series alive for a long time to come.

This book is a stand alone story or if you have read any of the Maiden Lane Series you will know Alf, the waif who grew up in St. Giles when she was abandoned at age 5 on the streets by her mother.  Alf is a girl dressed as a boy.  It's safer that way because of where she lives.  She has taken over the persona of the Ghost of St. GIles and has learned how to fight with swords by a former Ghost, Godric St. John who is the hero of Lord Of Darkness.

Hugh Fitzroy, the Duke of Kyle is the acknowledged son of King of England who is in the wrong place at the wrong time.  He was on his way home from a dinner when he was ambushed by a group of criminals near Convent Garden.  He drew his sword to fight but was seriously outnumbered until out of nowhere the Ghost of St Giles joined the fight and drove the criminals off.  It happened so fast that Hugh did not have time to thank the man who helped him.   Hugh was deliberately targeted and knows that it is somehow connected to his investigation into a group called the Lords of Chaos.  Hugh sends forAlf, the urchin who is for hire to find out information about who paid the thugs to kill him, not knowing that Alf is the Ghost of St Giles.

When Hugh discovers Alf is a female their relationship heats up quickly.  Elizabeth writes a spirited story with layers of emotional turmoil,  characters that sizzle with sensuality and a lush and unique plot that will leave you breathless and wanting more.  Elizabeth takes two people who are so opposite to each other and through the magic of her words turns them into the couple who will live Happily Ever After.  I found myself rooting for Alf to finally have love and a family she can call her own.  I was totally taken off guard by the twist on the last page.  WOW!!!  Cannot wait for the next book in the Maiden Lane Series.
