ARC Review of The Princess Wore Plaid by Karen Hawkins

What happens when a Princess loses her way and finds herself working as a maid at an Inn in England. Now add a stubborn Scot who was wounded in a battle and is now hiding out on his estate in the highlands.

Princess Tatiana of Oxenburg is travelling to her cousins wedding when her carriage is attacked and she is separated from her people.  She winds up working as a maid at an inn that she stumbles upon.  The kind owners do not believe she is who she says but they take her in.  Lord Buchan only leaves his estate once a week to go the local inn because the owner's wife is a wonderful cook because his cook leaves much to be desired.   Tatiana is feisty and beautiful.  Buchan is in constant pain from a leg injury and is always grouchy and just wants to be left alone.  Until he meets Tatiana and the sparks fly!!

This novella is vintage Karen Hawkins, smart, sassy and a joy to read.  The dialogue is witty and sharp.  The characters are intelligent.  The plot original and sophisticated.  Even though this is a novella it has all the depth of a full length novel.  Karen just keeps getting better and we love the Oxenburg/Scotland continuing Series. Cannot wait for the next one!!!!

Review of Her Wicked Proposal by Lauren Smith

This one is my favorite of the League of Rogues Series....Cedric was my favorite from the first...Now that he is blind he thinks his life is over, no more doing the things he loves to do. Riding horses, gambling, woman are all the activities that were his life. Before he lost his sight one of the young ladies that he lusted after and pursued was Anne Chessley, but she always pushed him away. Now Anne has a marriage proposal for Cedric. Her father has died and she is now an heiress and is being besieged by fortune hunters she proposes a marriage that will benefit them both. But she is has a secret that will eventually come out, and how will Cedric react to it. Cedric's plan is to seduce Anne and keep her craving him and hopefully they will eventually find love together. Lauren writes a wonderful story with lots of surprises, her characters jump right off the page, and the sex scenes are very hot!!!! Do not miss any of the books in The League of Rogues Series!

The Duke's Accidental Wife by Erica Ridley

This is the 7th book in The Dukes of War Series and I my favorite.  The Duke of Ravenwood is a peer who takes his responsibilities seriously.  No one knows that he hates crowds, speaking in public and is uncomfortable in all social situations.  Katherine is a young lady who pushes the limits and rules of Society and doesn’t care for her reputation.  She is never getting married and is definitely never having children.  Ravenwood has a reputation of being cold and haughty, it is just a show, he secretly wishes for love and family, but not with the hoyden Katherine Ross.

As you can surmise from the title they wind up in a compromising positon and are forced to marry.  As they get to know each other they realize their is so much more to each other then they thought.

This is a very romantic story that actually brought me to tears.  Beautifully written by Erica. I am so glad that I discovered Erica’s books.  She writes an amazing story with a intelligent plot that moves at just the right pace.  I loved the vulnerability of her characters.  She gives them fears, quirks and insecurities that make them more real to the reader.
