“December, with its short days packed with end-of-the-year excitement, might be the month best suited to the romance novella — the perfect length for the rare hour or two of free time. Meredith Duran’s Sweetest Regret (Simon & Schuster) tells the brief but captivating story of Georgiana Trent, daughter to a Victorian-era diplomat, and Lucas Godwin, the man who broke her heart two years earlier. This is a romance full of longing and nostalgia that is also a compelling mystery. At a Christmas house party, Georgie and Lucas must work together to find a letter that’s been stolen from Georgie’s father, a task that helps rekindle their past love. Victorian England created most of the holiday traditions celebrated around Christmas, and Duran makes use of them, peppering the book with trees and carols and games and mistletoe, the latter making quality opportunities for smooching. THE RESULT IS A DELICIOUS MORSEL OF A ROMANCE — LITERARY SHORTBREAD. OR FIGGY PUDDING, IF THAT’S MORE YOUR STYLE.” Washington Post Review for Sweetest Regret, “Sarah MacLean picks the best romance novels of the month,” November 29, 2016

Additional Praise for the Rules for the Reckless series:
“This flawless novel in the Rules for the Reckless series, set in 1886 London, pivots seamlessly to Catherine Everleigh and Nick O’Shea, lively characters who won readers’ hearts in Lady Be Good…These intelligent, multilayered characters embody the best aspects of this wonderfully indulgent series.”
Publishers Weekly (STARRED REVIEW, Luck Be A Lady)

“Hot on the heels of Lady Be Good comes Catherine Everleigh’s story, and readers know they’ll be in for a fun, sexy and poignant roller coaster ride. Well-paced, simmering with sexual tension and peopled with memorable characters, this is a love story to be savored.”

“Love transcends the limits of wealth and social rank in the smart, likable third Rules for the Reckless historical…Duran gives her characters depth: Christian grapples with his desire for revenge and anxiety over unexpectedly becoming his father’s heir, and Lilah is a pawn who fears exposure and ruin. Readers will especially look forward to Catherine finding her own romance in a future installment.”
—Publishers Weekly (Lady Be Good)

An emotionally charged story that highlights the prevalent prejudice of the well born and those who were not.  Georgie and Lucas fell in love and were separated by her father who lied to both of them.  Two years later Lucas shows up at Georgie’s Christmas house party and they immediately start sniping and insulting each other, neither one knowing that they were tricked and that their feelings for each other have not changed.  Now they have to work to find their way to forgive each other and start again. Meredith writes an intense, intelligent, witty story that has a everything we love about a historical romance novel. .

Review of Scandal's Splendor by Collette Cameron

This is my first Collette Cameron Book!!  Loved that the hero was a Frenchman!!!  Seonaid and Jacques were perfect, an unlikely couple that over came all kinds of obstacles that will make you laugh and cry.

Seonaid has a gift of seeing events that have not yet happened, but they are never specific enough or come at the wrong time.   Jacques is a broke nobleman who owns nothing but a wreck of a castle that is haunted. He pursues Seonaid because he is fascinated by her and hopes that together they can find happiness.  They are both hiding from pain, fear and regrets.

I do not do spoilers in my reviews.  Take my word that this is a splendid novel with lots of twists and surprises.  Collette is a master at awakening the desires and dangers that will leave you breathless and wanting more.  Her prose is wonderful, witty and elegantly refined.  Her characters are beautifully perfect but have flaws that define them and make this story a joyful experience for the reader.  I just loved the adventure she took me on and I am sure that you will love it to.
